BAN THE BAG
Meeting #2 - Jan 4
Surfrider Chicago, along with two other groups (Ban The Bag Chicago + Environmental Law & Policy Center) met with Alderman Moreno Jan 4 to discuss combining forces to ban the single-use plastic shopping bag in Chicago. Getting anything done in this city is daunting, and we want to go about it the best way. There'll be more to report in the months to come (and opportunities for those who want to roll up their sleeves and join the task force).
Beach Clean Up
October 8, Montrose
Making the best of some sizzling (mid 80's) indian summer conditons, Chicago Chapter gathered on our favorite north side beach to give it some TLC. Surfrider welcomed the activism of our partnering law firm, McDermott Will & Emery, who supplied a large percentage of the man (and woman) power to make this a great event. The Dock served food and beverages post.

Waveriders throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana are a rare breed of surfer, many traveling hundreds of miles to find waves, and braving all kinds of temperatures to surf Lake Michigan and the other Great Lakes, at all times of the year. We originally hail from all over the U.S., even Hawaii and Australia, and often surf elsewhere, too. But we really appreciate our own freshwater waves, and believe that our states' water resources and coastlines are a real gift! Our involvement in the Surfrider Foundation is all about giving back. Please join us to support our mission and programs! Bryan MacDonald near Gary, Jan 2010, photo by Mike Killion
